1984年毕业于华南农业大学林学系，获学士学位;

1984-1987在华南农业大学植物保护系植物病理学专业，获农学硕士学位;

2000年12月为教授;1997-2001年为华南农业大学植物病理学在职博士研究生，获博士学位;

1987 -1990年为植物保护系教员;

1991-1995年为讲师;

1996-2000年为副教授;

2000年12月为教授;

曾在比利时根特农业研究中心(1998. 10-1999. 2)、国立新加坡大学农业分子生物学研究所(2001. 1-2003. 11)进行合作研究。多次受邀请出访美国、澳大利亚、比利时、奥地利、西班牙、俄罗斯、南非、新加坡等国家参加国际学术会议或交流访问并作学术报告。

中国植物病理学会线虫专业委员会主任、国际线虫学会联盟(IFNS)理事、中国植物病理学会常务理事、《植物保护》编委、教育部生物防治工程研究中心副主任、农业部杀线虫剂药效试验平台负责人。曾任华南农业大学国际交流处处长、中国国际农业培训中心副主任、资源环境学院植物病理系主任、第14届国家自然科学基金委员会生命科学部植物保护学学科评审专家组专家。

进行重要植物寄生线虫的分类鉴定与分子系统学研究，描述新种9个，建立包括根结线虫、松材线虫、根腐线虫等重要线虫的多种分子检测技术;研究植物线虫功能基因组学，挖掘植物线虫效应子30多个，分析了重要根结线虫效应子Mj-nulgla、Mj-ttl等与寄主植物的互作关系，初步解析了爪哇根结线虫侵染寄主植物的分子机理;克隆了爪哇根结线虫效应子Mj-eng3，并获得基于RNA干扰的抗线虫转基因植物;研究了爪哇根结线虫的发育相关基因，并取得重要进展;调查了我国象耳豆根结线虫分布危害及生物学特征，明确了其在我国的适生与传播风险;研究了华南蔬菜产区根结线虫的发生规律和主要防控技术，并在生产上示范应用;研究筛选了作物线虫病害杀线虫剂及其应用技术，明确阿维菌素、噻唑膦为目前我国作物生产上安生有效的主要杀线虫剂;研究筛选了对植物线虫有拮抗和抑制作用的微生物，获得4株对根结线虫有良好防效的菌株，有较好的开发前景。
